Systems Analyst

On this page I have provided complete infomation on my program  that I am currently taking in Sheridan College. There is also a link to my college web site so if any one is interested in exploring it please free feel to check it out.  Not only this I have also included the complete description of the courses that I took or will take in the future.
Following are the topics that I have covered on this page:
Systems Analyst
Currently I am taking Systems Analyst Co-Op Program in Sheridan College, TrafalgarRoad Campus.
Computers are reshaping the way businesses and organizations work. As a result, the demand for entry-level system's analyst is strong.  Sheridan's Systems Analyst Program provides students with a broad business and technical background in computer applications,  database, data communications,  programming and systems. top

Cooperative Education
As well as classroom experience,  this program provides the opportunity to participate in paid work placements.  Co-op education enables valuable experience and contacts,  and helps pay school costs.  Enrollment in Co-op is limited,  and entry is through and additional Co-op selection process.  Placements in Japan are also possible. top

Mobile Computer Technology
A special feature of this program is that learning is enhanced for each student through the use of laptop computers for course work and projects.  Students will be required to pay a technology fee that will cover the cost of leasing and IBM ThinkPad as well as associated software,  and other program-related technology.   top

SUCCESS STORIES FOR SYSTEMS ANALYST

SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND THEIR ANSWERS:

What will I learn?

Subject Area Outcomes
Programming Design, code, debug, test, document and modify new and/or existing computer programs which execute according to functional specifications.  Object-oriented, procedural and event-driven techniques are used.
Database Management Design a relational database using a prescribed business problem of a minimum two file complexity. Build and query (using SQL) a database application based on relational database design.
Operating Systems/Hardware Physically/logically maintain and operate current PC systems using at least two operating systems to perform basic computer file maintenance and communication functions and as platforms for computer programming.
Systems Analysis and Design Work effectively as a project team member on projects involving and existing system that needs development or redesign using prototyping, project management and CASE or alternative methodologies.
Data Communications Plan, install, set up, maintain, administer and support a LAN.  Explore the issues and technologies of internetworking in the context of global data communications.
Applications Software Use word-processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, email, and Internet software as tools for communication, problem-solving and documentation.
Business Research an external enterprise's standard business application and report and present findings using diagraming and narrative descriptions to demonstrate understanding of the functional relationships of business applications and their resulting information requirements.
Generic Skills Utilize numerical, analytical, communication, team-work, interpersonal, and technological skills to perform computer related functions whether machine or person based.

How will I learn?

All students in the School of Computing and Information Management will find themselves learning in a variety of ways.

Reading:
The computer field is constantly changing. Reading from print and online sources for information to gain or enhance classroom activities is central to many courses.
Writing:
The expression of technical and non-technical material in written form is another key element of our courses. The clear, concise presentation of researched information is a necessary skill which requires practice.

Presentations:
Many courses require students to present technical and other information via informal or formal presentations which may be classical or electronic in format.

Group and Team Work:
You will find yourselves assigned to teams or groups to perform tasks such as research, analysis, report writing and presentations.

Self-Directed Learning:
Some courses are provided by computer based training or other technologically mediated instruction formats. Students will work at their own pace yet be responsible for meeting testing deadlines.

Lab Work:
Computer labs provide students with the opportunity to apply concepts taught in regular classrooms and learn new skills. Many courses have one or more associated lab hour. Some lab hours are staffed by faculty and others by lab technicians.

Classroom:
Formal classes take place during which faculty may deliver lectures, facilitate group discussion or provide other formats for instruction. Some of your classes will take place in a large class setting.

Independent Learning:
Students can expect to have some portion of their program identified as independent learning whereby a task[s] is assigned by a faculty member but executed by the student with or without staff support.

Homework:

Students should expect assigned homework in all courses.  A useful rule of thumb is to budget at least one hour outside of class for every hour you spend in class.  So, if you have twenty-one hours of classes on your timetable, you should be prepared to spend twenty-one hours each week completing homework and studying.
